What we do

See our video below for information on what we do!

The Kea Conservation Trust raises awareness of:

  • kea and their habitat,
  • the unique issues impacting on kea and our fragile NZ alpine ecosystems
  • how communities can help species under threat such as kea

The Kea Conservation Trust disseminates this information through:

  • our website
  • bi-monthly email updates to subscribers
  • community talks and presentations
  • conference papers here and overseas
  • scientific papers
  • production of education material in collaboration with other groups
  • production of promotional material (DVDs/books)
  • annual newsletter/report

The Kea Conservation Trust also investigates and initiates:

  • practical methods of mitigating these impacts
  • topics and discussions of particular interest to community groups and stakeholders

The KCT achieves these goals through partnership with:

  • people and communities!

It is only through developing strong relationships with individuals and groups, locally, nationally and globally, that we can save threatened species such as kea and protect their unique ecosytems for all to enjoy. As such we will continue to grow the following partnerships:

  • Local community groups (particularly those residing in kea habitat)
  • South Island skifield operators
  • High country farming communities
  • National and global scientific and conservation communities
  • Department of Conservation
  • Schools and tertiary facilities
  • Funding stakeholders
  • Zoos
