Our very first Kea Konvention, held in Arthur’s Pass village on Saturday 29th – 30th April 2017, attracted 99 attendees. The Konvention was opened by our sponsor, Federated Mountain Clubs President and Vice president, Peter Wilson and Jan Finlayson, Nigel Harris for Ngai Tahu, Chris Stewart for Department of Conservation (Arthur’s Pass), Pete Neale for the Arthurs Pass Wildlife Trust, Tamsin Orr-Walker (Kea Conservation Trust) and our Keynote Speaker, Peter Hillary – a passionate advocate of kea in our mountains.
A total of 21 people presented on current kea projects, research and knowledge on the Saturday and 5 discussion sessions and a workshop on caring for injured kea were run on the Sunday.
