Our planet is under pressure – climate change, over population and depletion of the finite resources of our world are serious issues which can no longer be ignored. Not only do these issues impact globally on our natural environment – our forests, our seas and ultimately the air we breathe – but they also impact on the future survival of all species, including kea.
The Kea Conservation Trust is concerned about these issues and supports any efforts to reduce our combined human impact on the planet. As such we have joined other organisations around the world and signed a Population Policy and Environment Joint statement with Population Matters in the UK. We invite other environmental organisations to do the same.
We must all act now and make the necessary cultural, social and behavioural changes to repair the damage we have done to fragile ecosystems, protect global biodiversity, reduce our present and future consumption patterns, invest in renewable energy sources and to manage our global population numbers.
